Making Specialist Language Clear

Specialist language can preserve precision within a discipline while excluding readers who do not share its conventions. Define the audience and communication purpose, identify terms likely to impede understanding, and decide which terms should be retained, defined, illustrated or replaced. Produce a plain language layer without erasing necessary distinctions, qualifications or uncertainty. Subject matter review protects accuracy, while audience testing checks whether the explanation is genuinely comprehensible rather than merely simpler in appearance.
